Suzanis, embroidered covers hangings and throws, are part of a tradition dating back to the 16th century.
Uzbekistan is the birthplace of these stunning textiles, where suzanis are prepared for girls' dowries. The fabric is taken to the kalamkash, the village designer, after much discussion on design elements and price the design is drawn. The strips of fabric are then divided between different family members and worked over several weeks, this is why alignment and colour are not always a perfect match, many of the suzanis are old and may have the marks of use. The embroidery motifs date back even further and originate from places along the Silk Road, including India, China and Persia.
Our designs are revived from old pieces, elegantly hand dyed to create a work of excellence. Add atmosphere and colour to any room with one of these beautiful pieces or give it as a treasured gift. |
